The Cobourg Horticultural Society is a volunteer organization founded in 1859 to provide a welcoming environment for all who enjoy creating attractive gardens for themselves, and in the public spaces of our community. This website provides information on our activities and events, encourages guests and all members to attend our meetings, and provides useful gardening information for all who visit.

Over 100 members attend our monthly meetings with guest speakers. Members help organize our annual events such as the plant sale, spring and summer flower shows; they maintain our community garden projects, and tour outstanding gardens in and around Northumberland County. We publish a Newsletter three times a year, an Annual Year Book, and provide scholarships to graduating high school students pursuing studies in horticulture or a related field. Meetings include refreshments, an opportunity to use our lending library, and social activities with friends who share your gardening enthusiasm.

We welcome all local gardeners to join our members who may be beginners, landscape designers, or Master Gardeners with expert knowledge on the wide variety of garden topics at our meetings. The club promotes sound environmental practices, and education on hot topics such as the recent infestations of invasive plants.

The white rose is the official flower of our club, and several can be seen at one of the community gardens we maintain - The Edwin R. Haynes Memorial Rose Garden located in Victoria Park at the corner of King Street East and Church Street. Our members have also volunteered countless happy hours creating and maintaining the Five Corners Millennium Garden opposite the Cobourg Library at the corner of King Street West, Ontario and William Streets.
